This is official description
SwisSQL - Data Migration Edition helps the migration and transfer of database schemas and data across leading databases such as Oracle, IBM DB2, MS-SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL and MS Access.
SwisSQL - Data Migration Edition offers an open, user-friendly, and extensible migration process ensuring reliability and data integrity.
Main Features:
- Supports migration/transfer of schema and data across Oracle, IBM DB2, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL MaxDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL and MS Access databases.
- Migration of data from Excel and CSV (Comma Separated Value) files into databases.
- Migrates tables, indexes, constraints along with data.
- Support for migration and transformation of data using SQL SELECT queries.
- Generates scripts to perform data & schema migration in a command line mode (without GUI). Scripts can also be used for periodic scheduled migration.
- Supports basic features for Schema and Data transformation during migration.
- Supports migrating stored procedures, functions, triggers, if the source and target RDBMS are the same. Following migration combinations are supported currently: SQL Server to SQL Server, Oracle to Oracle, DB2 to DB2 and Sybase to Sybase.
- Criteria based data migration (data subsetting) is supported when migrating from Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Sybase ASE to any database.
User can set the filter criteria for a table(s) based on which, only the rows matching the criteria (subset) will be migrated. If criteria is set for a table, then its dependant tables will also be migrated based on its relationship.
- Support for migration to CSV files and Insert SQL statements.
The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 5.7
SwisSQL Data Migration is a desktop program with a wizard-like interface for easy database migration between several data sources. These sources can be either major database engines (SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, Oracle, Postgre) or even file-based data (Excel and Access files).
This is a Java-based application, which means you can run it on virtually any platform. Use of JDBC ensures maximum compatibility between any database vendors, as well as secure and reliable transactions with rollback support. Most of the time you don't need to worry about the technical details of connections and vendors: the JDBC drivers and default program settings take care of almost everything, which is great for both database gurus and for the operation staff with less database knowledge.
The only "problem" for the average user is the high license price: you have to pay a license fee to unlock all the program features, plus an annual support fee. If you don't want to pay anything, you can try the program for 30 days, with a lot of limitations including the number of objects to import, and maximum rows of data per table.
In sum, SwisSQL seems to be a good product, fast and reliable, with support for the most popular data sources. But considering that it's just for database migration, its price doesn't seem reasonable at all. |
